A family business

At Ruitenberg Ingredients, people come first. Real attention to the person behind the customer. And to our colleagues. Why? Because we are built on long-term and valuable relationships. As a family business, we think this is essential. We believe these are the building blocks for a stable and lasting equal relationship.

Creativity

If you give people the space to fully use their drive, expertise and insights, great things happen. In-depth research, experimentation, high-level collaboration, with the aim of finding solutions, developing innovations and creating high-quality products. Creativity drives our success.

Support

We do not deliver end products, but we feel responsible for our customers’ end result. So we keep developing and building until we have an application that is finished. For example, we help you set up production lines, and we are only happy when the product successfully enters the market.

Drive

We have been pioneers in our field since 1938. Why? Because we believe it can always be better. Tackling problems, finding solutions and innovating: it’s in our blood. That drive has given us many innovations. And it means that we always aim for the best result at every step of the process. Together with our customers.

Our story

Growth over the years

The Ruitenberg family

Generations of development

In 1938, Willem Ruitenberg started an agency. He mainly sold potato starch and worked from home. He later added pectin and liquorice root extract to the range. His wife, Jet, did the administration and they met with their staff in the conservatory. Soon more space was needed, so the company W. Ruitenberg Czn. moved to Villa Genista on Utrechtseweg in Amersfoort. Willem’s father, Cornelis Sr.’s designed it! (And now a national monument)

Amersfoort developments

Innovation and growth

Willem’s oldest son Kees (Cornelis Jr.) took over the company in 1967. During that time, innovation became more important. We opened our own laboratory and a production site where powders were mixed into premixes. In 1984, Kees bought an old dairy factory in Ruinerwold. At first, we processed liquid smoke, liquorice and liquorice extract there. Fresh fillings followed later. In 2019, we opened a modern and sustainable production site at this location.

A new business structure

The family as ambassador

Kees Ruitenberg retired in 1997. An external director took over the daily management of the company, while the family stayed involved as shareholders. That is still the case today. The third generation of Ruitenberg – Elsowina, Marica, and Cees Jan – focus on the long term and are preparing the fourth generation for the future. And every day, we work as ambassadors for the company.

In Twello since 2003

Room for growth

In 2003, we outgrew the Amersfoort location and found a great place in Twello. Since then, we have been developing innovations from the Ruitenberg Ingredients head office, two production sites and our Tech Centres.

At the start of 2013, we separated the commercial activities for liquorice and confectionery. The operating company Ruitenberg BasIQs also works from its own office in Twello.
